This song has a very special meaning to us. At our wedding we not only did a first dance but we did a first performance as a newly married couple. We performed “The Parting Glass.” The version we played at our wedding is slightly different than this one but we’ve had more time to flush out the arrangement and get the song exactly where we want it. The song is originally a traditional Scottish tune but it is widely popular in Ireland (which is where we spent out honeymoon). The melody to this song is hopeful yet haunting at the same time.
We are making an active effort to add more guitar and voice music to our repertoire as well as record more of our music. There is a lot of beautiful classical guitar and voice music out there but sadly there aren’t that many recordings of it so we are going to change that. Our first addition to the guitar and voice library is our rendition of “Ave Maria” by Franz Schubert. When the voice is accompanied by a guitar like this there is just something so intimate and pure about it. The singer doesn’t have to compete with something louder like a piano and can be expressive in different ways.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has booked Joy and I to provide music for their Man and Woman of the Year gala. We are so excited to be a part of this event! This is for such a great cause and we thrilled to be able to use our gift and love of music as our donation.
